"big step forward" my pumpkin.

This is absolutely disgusting. "Oh! It's so amazing! TWO WOMEN will be in command of spacecraft AT THE SAME TIME!"

Yeah. Amazing. It only took MORE THAN FIFTY YEARS to get there.

Honey, that's not amazing for the reason you keep exclaiming over.

After all that women's lib, all that work to make sure that women in academia get access to the same resources and the same promotions that men do, all the women in the workplace today, and there are still only 18 women who are astronauts, and 73 men? And we still talk about whether the astro-women are married and have kids, but that's hardly a requisite point in any article about astro-men.

Mya would tell me that I'm being oversensitive here, but I really don't see how that is true. How can you look at numbers like that and not see that there is still a huge discrepancy in how women are treated? What year *is* this?!

the hedge abides.

Kind of makes you miss the USSR. They were at least this far while we were trying to figure out what Disney Land was all about.

I hate the implication that it's a publicity stunt. Because women aren't actually doing the jobs, right?

*growls*

Yeah, it was really classy how they brought up all the jokes about bringing mops into space and men whose lives are controlled by women. Hilarious. I'm glad this is about science and exploration, here.

What year is it? 1957?!

Of course it only took 21 years to get our first one there, whereas the USSR had two up there in that time.

It's fucking ridiculous.

Well, two women in 21 years of cosmonauts hardly earns the USSR any bragging rights, either.

Hence my second sentence.

you are not being overly sensitive at all

It's several years after we failed to pass the ERA, and the same year that in Massachusetts women make seventy-nine cents for every dollar men make.

Argh.
